Threads of art: The journey of the creation of a custom tapestry for project Glen Iris

In the world of interior design, it’s often the bespoke details that truly bring a space to life. For my Glen Iris project, I wanted to create something that would not only anchor the space but also add to the mid century detail of the home.  Enter talented artist Raphael Dias, who’s mastery in tapestry design was the perfect fit for this vision.

The Commission: Bringing the Vision to Life

From the outset, I knew a custom tapestry would add warmth, texture, and a deeply personal touch to my clients’ home. After connecting with Raphael, I embarked on a collaborative journey to design a piece that would seamlessly integrate with the space.

Inspired by the natural surroundings and architectural elements of the home, the tapestry became a canvas of intricate patterns, rich colours, and subtle storytelling. Every thread was intentional, every detail considered.

The Design Process: Threads of Intention

Designing a custom piece like this is more than just an artistic endeavour—it’s a dialogue. From the initial sketches to the careful selection of materials, the artist worked closely with me to ensure the tapestry not only complemented the interiors but also stood as a work of art in its own right.

This process involved back-and-forth discussions, progress updates from the artist’s studio in Brazil, and a shared passion for craftsmanship.

The Installation: A Moment of Reveal

Once completed, the tapestry travelled across continents to find its home at my Glen Iris project. Seeing the piece finally hung in place was a testament to the dedication and creativity poured into its creation.  The resulting images highlight not just the beauty of the piece but also the way it interacts with the surrounding interiors—creating a visual harmony that feels both intentional and effortless.

A Lasting Impression

This tapestry is more than just a styling element; it’s a narrative woven into fabric, a reflection of artistry and collaboration. It serves as a reminder of the power of bespoke design to transform spaces and elevate the everyday.
